應用閘閥作為放水設備，其本身不能直接安裝，需要與閘閥配套的鋼管和法蘭盤。鋼管可自行設計和加工，其鋼管壁厚應根據使用年限來決定。從實踐中看，用鋼板焊接的鋼管壁厚不應小于10mm，使用鑄鋼件不應小于20mm。法蘭盤一般為鑄鋼件，其作用是將閥門與鋼管聯接在一起，廠家可以直接提供。

一般形式：1、閥門井（塔）。按一般中小型水庫取水塔設計能滿足閘閥安裝、檢修為原則，一般采用方形，其結構計算按水工鋼筋混凝土結構計算。2、輸水洞。按通常的水庫輸水洞設計和計算。3、布置形式。按其位置可分為壩前式、壩中式、壩后式布置。按閥門數量可分為單閥、雙閥式布置。

應用閘閥作水庫放水設備優點（見《表1》）：1、運行可靠，止水效果好。閘閥的啟閉可分為手動、電動兩種，故運行可靠。由于閘閥采用紫鋼或黃銅止水，止水效果非常好，使用年限長。2、造價低，使用閘閥要比平面鋼閘門造價低40%左右。3、施工簡單，安裝方便。閘閥只要吊裝就位，連接螺栓即可。4、便于管理，運行安全。一般閘閥都封閉在閘門井內非管理人員一般情況下無法隨意啟閉，也不易受到人為破壞。
